Give your Everything! Go Canada Go!

Canadian Olymics Athelete

Over a billion people across the globe are expected to watch the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics that begins today at 4:00 pm Eastern. Our hopes are high this year thanks to a very successful performance four years back at Beijing where we finished tied at 13th overall on the strength of 18 medals including 3 gold.

At Beijing the Canadian Olympic Committee set a goal to finish amongst the top 16 countries in medal tally; we started slow at the event. However, with sheer determination and the strong will of our strong contingent of 334 athletes we not only met the expectation but surpassed it. This result was even sweeter because of a huge progress we made compared to the one held at Athens in 2004, where we finished 19th in the medal tally with 12 medals.

Today we start all over again; Canada comes together for all its athletes to bring home the glory. Target is set to finish in top 12 standing. But, history is known to repeat itself and we will once again surpass expectations, just like we did the last time. The country waits to see Simon Whitfield bear the Canadian flag and walk to the anthem of “O Canada” with 280 odd other athletes in the biggest show on earth.

Let the games begin!
